Dear Mom and Dad,            Oct 11, 1971 Monday

I forgot to get help from you on this Application: National Defense Student Loan when you were here. Now I'll have to send it in the mail. I thought I wouldn't have to send it. I was so happy or excited I forgot all about it. I ran right down to see everybody and then didn't think of it once. I wasn't even depressed when everybody left. I was able to get right back to work. 

Pat Paulsen was very good. I didn't expect him to be as gray haired as he was though. Hard to believe he was actually there. The place wasn't packed. The front sections were almost filled but that's all.

--> You can help me fill this [loan application] out. Look it over (check for mistakes). It should be right. I checked it over myself.

Special pts. I need help on. --> 1st page I.7. I need 2 people's addresses at home. Mr. Brown's and Mr. Goette's (sp?) would do.

III. 1. and 2. Parents income |&| other assets and resources if any. and 3. poss. Brother & Sister & Father going to school or the property in Pennsylvania.

IV. 1. Costs. I have listed all costs that I am aware of. ^{You might want to list some} travel expenses (although I'm not a commuter; you could list it under other costs)

Resources. What you estimate that you can help me with, Dad and Mom. "Is this a plea?" If anything it makes ^{the letter} more personal. It seems that if the total cost stands as it is at $3320. then I would need $380. from my parents (througout the course of the year).

2. I am not aware of any obligations that I have or other earnings that I have not already mentioned. Are you?

Thanksgiving's coming up. It'll be good to see everybody again ^{then (if not before then)} Joan and Richard maybe and Grandmom & Granddad too.

Thanksgiving recess begins as soon as classes are over on Tuesday Nov. 23. I get out at 11:30 am. on that day. You can come up at that time or wait until after 3:30 pm whichever is more convenient. ^{--> If you come anywhere from 11:30 - 3:30 I won't work that day. If you come after 3:30 I'll work. (If you come before 11:30 you'll be early)}

^{I'll need about $15. in case I decide to take the bus to Gettysbog some weekend night?}
