Dear Mom and Dad,              Oct. 8, 1973

I had an okay time in New York.

I had some prejudice about the place, but there is a basic human reality there as there is probably everywhere. There shouldn't be any doubt unless one's from Montana. ('have to see to believe'(?)), or is a rigid follower of the scientific method. These are just words about words.

You probably don't know him, Dad, but I will drop the name anyway. Sayre (sp?), a United Methodist minister in New Jersey. I would be interested to know. He has two daughters. One of them is a senior here. Jill. I'll have to get to know her better. I don't know her father.

Hey I really should get going, but did I tell you that Krishna's book is very much repetitive. What strikes me is the description of his enlightenment and its similarity to spiritual enlightenment in the Christian religion. His predicament for awhile after his enlightenment, because he wasn't "ready," was, as he says, somewhat abnormal; he was approaching insanity. Some (or all) neurotics (like me) then are resisting spiritual enlightenment and all psychotics are repressing and in a way (not by strict definition) are abreating the repressed (emotional) experience. Does this make sense.

Love, Mike

The TM is not a part of the Myst. course but it surely isn't much different.
