a concerto with a youth orchestra. The conductor was for her to carry on with it but she chose to become a teacher in a bilingual classroom in Arizona. She was in Central America during strikes & we heard that's not too good an idea. She also was with Mother Teresa in IndiaQuite a kid! Daniel, the oldest, plays cello and is a doctor. We played one of the Brahams cello sonatastogether,1st movt., for Miriam's wedding after he got the{[…] cow who'd got loosein the right place - making the wedding a bit late. :) Miriam's been in Russia a couple times and has a job that helps those who need it so you see it is a rather remarkable family. Ruth has a brother who plays violinPRO!& one Christmas we all got together when he came over from Germany & bombed thru the Schubert quintet"The Trout"that uses a double bass. For a number of years we would get together to read thru music. They would have a Christmas tree with real candles on it which were lighted (Mac, ready to go for the water at any second) and we'd sing Christmas carols. Their home is an old log cabin that they've fixed up beautifully with many friends help thru the years.
Two little black girls from the Strawbridge church came for piano lessons, too. One didn't have a piano but she wanted to take & the two came together for the lesson Well - we went all that year & at the end of the year I hated to do this, but I had to tell her - nothing was happening & we'd better quit. At our last lesson I was preparing myself to tell her& himwhen she played! I held my tongue, she came back the next year & did as well as the kids with pianos to practice on? Maybe they didn't! Who knows? Her name was Rose, a beautiful black black child and one time when I called her on the phone she answered with the sweetest "God bless you" I've ever heard. I can still hear it & it still blesses me!
Remember Ernie? Ernie Krabel, the Hi School teacher Mac was counseling in the inner city? She called & wanted to come for a visit. She & Hal were still together & Mac couldn't believe it -
