Kindex

Dear mom and dad,                Sept. 19, 1972

I'll have to check again today to see if the chemistry book is in, because I have another quiz tomorrow.

I haven't gotten my ballot yet, though I sent in the application.

I got a 6 out of a possible 10 on the last quiz. I missed two questions. They were both mathmatical problems. I just miscalculated or made some "stupid" mistake. The grade could have just as well been 10. I'm not upset by it. I only wish that we can continually approach a system where grades are not necessary and that learning is equated by the personal satisfaction of confidence

of knowing.

I don't really need the chem. book for the quiz tomorrow because I had read ahead last time when I borrowed the prof's book and I understand the material. He has gone over it in class since I read it and it is familiar from high school anyway.

I've been through a Physics lab and quiz since I wrote last. In lab the prof. is punctual and exacting (and has a bit of a foreign accent that makes him hard to understand at times). He and the assistant continually circulate around the room asking each person if he has any problems. You tell them you don't, but then wish you had said "yes, I keep getting bothered by intermitant interuptions." they tell you what you shouldn't do after you have done it and try to ram a bit of their knowledge down your throat. I'm prepared now (for the next lab) I've already done half of it.

Love, Mike
